Nice one,. Did the mayor get dipped?

Comment by: Helen on 4th July 2013 at 07:02

I can't help thinking a Coalbrookedale cast iron fountain wouldn't have been that colour & wouldn't there have been more than a sprinkle of water ?

Oh, aren't I a misery, when everyone looks so cheerful !!

Comment by: Colin Harlow on 4th July 2013 at 07:56

The fountain has been brought to life with the switch on of water, lets hope vandals and drunken hooligans leave it alone.
Well done David.

Comment by: Mick on 4th July 2013 at 08:27

Helen its exactly the same size and colour as the original fountain only thing thats different is the water.

Comment by: RON HUNT on 4th July 2013 at 08:36

Lets have a CCTV camera trained on it 24/7 As no doubt some ? will be throwing all sorts of litter into it as well as throwing people in it.

Comment by: Kath Pressey on 4th July 2013 at 09:37

what a lovely happy picture!

Comment by: David on 4th July 2013 at 12:16

Haha Ken. No the mayor didn't get dunked.

WLCT have put a video on Youtube about the making of the fountain,

I don't like the colour.

Comment by: Anne on 4th July 2013 at 14:00

I don't like the colour either, just not right is it?

Comment by: money for youth on 4th July 2013 at 14:41

If they gave more money to youth projects instead of wasting it on this rubbish the kids wouldn't have time to vandalize things like this.

Comment by: RON HUNT on 4th July 2013 at 16:52

Why is everyting around the youth of today??? It's about time the older generation got something spent on them for a change. They have just opened a multi million pound Youth Zone. How much more money do they want? Apart from that, why is it an excuse to vandalise things because they are bored or have no money.

Comment by: jonny look back on 4th July 2013 at 17:14

I totally agree money for youth , just like the water its just money down the drain . Ron Hunt was you ever a kid you miserable old so and so.

Comment by: money for youth on 4th July 2013 at 17:14

Yes they are bored !!! They have know where to play , they can't play games outside their houses anymore due to people like you Ron ! who shout and complain about them and have no time for the youth of today.

Comment by: John Morris on 4th July 2013 at 17:37

If vandals didn't vandalise there would be more money to spend on all sorts projects, for both young and old. Vandalism is such a stupid pointless crime. A good fun picture David.

Comment by: Rev David Long on 4th July 2013 at 18:06

Mick - given that there is a finite amount of water in our world, it's possible that some of the water flowing through the fountain today has been there before - along with a few drops from the Jordan from when Christ was Baptised.

Comment by: RON HUNT on 4th July 2013 at 20:27

M.O.Y. You presume I shout at kids!! I suggest you get your facts correct. The problem is a lot (Notice I don't tar them all with the same brush)of kids can't make their own entertainment. Unless it has a plug or batteries they are BORED..and it's people like you who, make that the excuse for vandalism "because they are bored"..When we were young I was bored out of my skull at times but I didn't go around vandalising property. Like I said They have a State of the Art youth zone. Cost a lot more than the fountain..What's your problem with that?

Comment by: Lizzie down under on 4th July 2013 at 22:31

I like the fountain...it is big and bold and it makes a great statement in the park.....be thankful that you all can go and sit on the edge and run your fingers through the water.....life is too short.....be happy....cheers!!!!

Comment by: Mick on 4th July 2013 at 22:47

Rev David Long, thats very true.

I stand corrected.

Comment by: Skeets on 4th July 2013 at 23:58

I agree with Ron, a lot more money spent on youth will not cure the problems of todays youth.
More money will not equal less vandalism, vandalism is a state of mind.

Comment by: scaramouche on 5th July 2013 at 07:39

I agree with Ron 'Money For Youth' You sound like one of those Liberal, Mamby Pamby, People who's "LITTLE DARLINGS" can do no wrong. BORED!!!!!! 99% of them walk around with their hand permanently to their ear holes or sit, there oblivious to everything around them, Texting. When I was young my mobile phone was two tin cans and a piece of string. How many of today's kids could make a Trolley or a Pea Gun<g> As Ron says they can't amuse themselves...

Comment by: Anne on 5th July 2013 at 08:13

Quite right scaramouche,
They wouldn't be seen with a little drawstring bag of marbles let alone playing games with them. On the other hand would they be in possession of an offensive weapon.

Comment by: Helen on 5th July 2013 at 08:16

Last word ?
Vandal, from the Oxford Dictionary.
'wilful or ignorant destroyer of works of art etc '

I was bored in the school holidays as a child but I didn't go round ruining things for other people.

Comment by: money for youth on 5th July 2013 at 08:40

What a load of rubbish "scaramouche" typical Tory answer blame the youth for the society we live in today . Technology as changed and people will change , your grandparents didn't use planes and cars so does that mean we shouldn't. I bet you are sat in your window now waiting for a kids ball to go in your garden so you can go out and take it off them.

Comment by: money for youth on 5th July 2013 at 09:09

Just to quote you a line from a song " I believe that children are our future teach them well and let them lead the way " . The older generation are the teachers try talking to the kids instead of putting them down all the time.

Comment by: scaramouche on 5th July 2013 at 10:54

Who is blaming the youth of today??? M.F.Y. you sure have a BIG CHIP on your shoulder...BUT I will say this a lot of the youth of today have no respect for anyone or anything, even themselves. AND why have you such an antagonistic view of the Council spending money ( Mostly made up of grants may I say)on renovating one of the nicest parks in Lancashire A jewel in Wigan's crown. Can the young ones not enjoy that too???? As Ron says Wigan has now one of the best Youth recreation centres in the North. So what is your problem??? You don't hear the O.A.P.'s complaiing that money is being spent on the Park.
GET A LIFE

Comment by: money for youth on 5th July 2013 at 11:37

Get a life ??? I have a life bring up my own children and also helping other children in the area .I'm guessing you have never had the joy of listening to a child or helping to develop one, and you say I have a chip on my shoulder try looking in a mirror .

Comment by: Carol Wilson on 5th July 2013 at 21:15

Are you American, money for youth?
Its 'vandalise', not vandalize.
Also, why do you seem so obsessed with kids? They'll get by in life despite the likes of you.

Comment by: money for youth on 5th July 2013 at 22:49

Thanks a lot for the spelling lesson Carol !!! Have you marked all your home work now and are bored sat at home on your own looking for a reaction .

Comment by: Garry on 6th July 2013 at 10:15

When Carol looks in the mirror, she hates what she sees.... so the grumpy old teacher takes it out on people who post on p-a-d..very sad. Money for youth spot on.

Comment by: Rita on 8th July 2013 at 20:35

It didn't take long.... https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=475128482579393

I've got my reaction, money for youth. You responded!

Comment by: Carol Wilson on 9th July 2013 at 22:29

Grumpy old teacher, Garry? I'm only 27. You're obviously as dopey as money for youth!

Comment by: John H on 10th July 2013 at 13:58

So nice to see such a big improvement in Wigan park. So nice to see the waterfall working. Seems like Wigan park is having a nice face lift. Wigan park is defo looking much better than it did a few years ago. Nice shot Dave

Comment by: josie on 4th August 2013 at 22:36

about a week ago having not been in the park for a while me and my hubby thought we would take our grandson some work was still going on so we sat on the grass near the bandstand and there were a group of teenagers sat in the bandstand drinking and swearing a couple of them looked like they just come from the rocky horror show, all at once one of the lads started to throw empty cans onto the grass one by one there must have been 9 cans he thought it was dead funny as they were all laughing , a man who was passing shouted at them but he was ignored by the ignorant youth of today they disgust me! .
