The Bull Hey Cricket Ground was purchased by the Club in 1957 for £5,000, wonder what it's worth now.

Nice photo, brings back memories. I loved to play cricket.

Now there's a bit of nostalgia for me! I really loved cricket, and when I left Wigan, to go to Leeds was a natural for me! I actually lived a stonesthrow away from the Headingley pitch for several years!

I forgot to say thanks, Thomas!

What do the big W C C stand for ?

Hope this town centre green area does not go the way other green spaces have, old grammar school playing field.

An unusual view of Wigan, never seen one of the cricket club before.

Have been on Bull Hey many a time in the early sixties. One because I love cricket and two, my maths teacher Mr. Frank Layland used to play for WCC. I hope one or two of you out there may remember him at Pemberton Boys School. I think WCC were in the Manchester Association League then

Comment by: Alan H on 22nd June 2013 at 14:24

Mick, WCC is of course Wigan Cricket Club

Comment by: Alan H on 22nd June 2013 at 14:27

The old pavilion was situated where the cars are parked and the players would walk down the steps between the W and C

Nice picture Thomas. It brings back memories for me.I used to go and watch them play on Saturday afternoons long time ago in the 1940's. I didn't know they still played cricket there. b

I remember watching Ramadhin and Valentine play on this ground, probably in the 50`s.
A W. it`s not surprising as there aren`t many photo`s of WCC.
See:- P-a-D 11 Jan.2008. Album, Sports, Wigan Cricket Club. New Gallery, Assorted 2, View over Wigan Cricket Club.
Ellen, I`ve never been on the cricket ground at Headingley, but many times have I watched Wigan rugby on the pitch adjacent!
Any particular reason, Tom, to take this photo?

I've been there many times for a drink in the late fifties early sixties. The only cricket match I saw was when a team from Coronation Street came to play. I remember standing next to William Roache alias Ken Barlow.

Mick, have a look, it's a picture of WIGAN CRICKET CLUB with a caption reading the same, so ergo WCC could mean ........ Dafter than Dirty Harry
No ... that would be DHH (I think)

The Subscripton Bowling club behind, "black & white buildind"
I'll lay bets if anyone can name another club to the right of the carpark in the corner of the "Subby" & WCC.. Some may already remember this question years ago that I asked...No answers yet. ;o)
