Mesnes Park Lodge
It will be nice to see it completed and tidied up. Wonder what it will be used for?
It does my old heart good to see that at least one fine building in Wigan as been saved.
Looks lovely.....Brian....should be great when it is finished....love the Tudor look....very clean lines.....cheers!!
I think it says its going to be a information centre and Hygiene suites
Brilliant - hope it is looked after. What is a hygiene suite? The waterfall at the bowling green end of the duck pond is now running - I have been going to the park for 60 years and didn't even know it was supposed to be a water fall. Hopefully the paths will be done soon and that people stop playing ball games etc. on the grassed areas where the flower beds are.
this lodge had been unused for many a year. Glad to see it put back to its former self externally.
Thank Heaven somethings are done right.Well done whoever is responsible.
Just to say again thank you for all your lovely comments on the 30th of May.....I have replied on that thread but just to say Thankyou again...I am very humbled.....Cheers to you all!!!!
The former home of Jack Ashton, Parks Superintendent. Hygiene Suite?? Hospitality Suite more like.
I've heard it is to be a bike shed. LOL.
And a round of cheers to you too Lizzie.
Great looking building. Good to see it in it's former glory. Well done to all concerned in it's restoration.
Cheers to lizzie...!!
As others have said, good news for a change and good to see it looking
great.
Cheers to Lizzie! x
Would have been perfect as the registry office.
I was told by an old lady, that at one time, the Mesnes Park Lodge was used by the head of the parks department at Wigan Council as a sort of official residence and he actually lived there, I think she meant in the days before Wigan Metro was formed, when it was Wigan Borough.
Mick I have looked at your videos. The Boer memorial looks quite steady as you walk around. What camera did you use? Did you use a cam steady?
Tommy two stroke......I lived in Wigan until 1953 and i always understood it to be the residence of the park superintendent as well.
Bob its a Sony and its got steady cam on it and I usually just lean on my handle bars when videoing.
I'm just surprised they didn't demolish it and build apartments on the site, it's what usually happens to any half decent looking old building nowadays.
