Nice one, Roger. Message for Janice. Next tour of Standish St. Wilfrids is Saturday 16th March at 10 30am.

It certainly looks like the view from Billinge Hill.

I run up there on occasions, in fact I might make my way up there again today if the weather stays this nice, will get a great view, just like the camera.

Could I also have a copy of this picture Roger, will look good when I am older and can't run anymore to remember the view I use to see. I could take one with my phone but it will never look as good as this does.

Its great picking out landmarks. That must be St. Matthew's Church, Highfield just above the trees above the Billinge Garden Centre (White House).

What is the building top right of the picture, with what looks like four columns leaning left and right?

Comment by: Neil Rigby on 27th February 2013 at 14:55

david, it's the Reebok Stadium Horwich, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reebok_Stadium for a picture.

Comment by: bill on 27th February 2013 at 15:09

david, its the Reebok Stadium. Home of the mighty Wanderers.

They HAVE gone a wandering at the moment Bill, unfortunately. Brilliant shot Roger, were, or are you related to Frank the comedian that worked at Heinz, i know there were loads of comedians worked there but they didn,t appear on stage!!!

As a young staff nurse in my early 20's I worked at Billinge Hospital. I had a flat in the then, new Nurses' Home 2. Being on the top floor; I could see for miles. Interesting to see the change in the landscape since that time. No Westwood power station anymore, and certainly no factory chimneys now!!!!!

Comment by: Roger on 27th February 2013 at 19:18

Hi Roy. I dint know of frank at Heinz, there were lots of comedians at courtaulds and lots at gas control equipment, none of them appeared on stage either Ha Ha

Comment by: Dave Button on 27th February 2013 at 23:05

Nice picture Roger from one of those comedians at Gas Control Equipment

The white tower to the right is, I think, the scaffolded and shrouded spire of St Catharine's, Scholes.

Comment by: Gerald Pilkington Canada on 2nd March 2013 at 00:25

ONG how many ladies worked at that place
