May I wish all Wiganworlders at home and around the World A Very Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year. Although we have never meet, and may never meet, I think there is a feeling of comradeship between us .When there is a difference of opinion on some matter or other I'm sure we all value the site and its diverse points of veiw . As a family might listen to other members take on life. We all owe a massive vote of thanks to Brian, Ron, and the team who make it all possible Kind regards to all, Tom.

Seriously though, I admire the quality of these `wildlife` photo`s.
I echo Ellen`s sentiments above.

May WW continue for many years to come, bringing, love, joy, pleasure and happiness and sometimes a little bit of controversy. Best wishes to all.

Rev David, Since youv retired from the Church trade do you still go to church ?

Most of us when we retire we never go back to where we worked so I was just wondering if your the same.

Comment by: Rev David Long on 25th December 2012 at 17:47

I was at Midnight Mass last night..., but in the congregation with my wife.
I may have retired from being a Vicar, but I'm still a priest - that stays with me to the grave.
Most retired clergy end up filling in, for holidays etc., for the present generation of Vicars. However, we need Permission from the Bishop to officiate in his Diocese, and the Bishops here insist we have a complete break from any form of ministry for 6 months after retiring.
I've only just received my Permission, so I've yet to start taking occasional services. We usually keep clear of our former parishes in case we're tempted to tut-tut about how it's gone to the dogs since we left. :-)

Reverend David,I loved the last sentence of your last comment! It called to mind the various comments I've heard in the last twenty or so years in this area. It seems that people are the same no matter where they are!

Comment by: Mick on 25th December 2012 at 23:12

Rev David, Very interesting reply I like the Tut Tut how it's gone to the dogs since I left.

Comment by: Roy on 26th December 2012 at 01:02

Well said Rev David, i once asked you at about the time the work on St Catherines was just begining but i didn,t get an answer (you,re excused) do you still keep your title of Reverend when you retire, i think the question has been answered. Were you at St Wilfrid,s Midnight Mass by any chance Rev? A Merry Xmas and a healthy and Happy New Year to ALL.
