Photo-a-Day  (Wednesday, 12th December, 2012)

Sea View

Sea View
Unusual name of the house Sea View, not unusual on the coast I imagine but Wigan, apparently you can see the sea from this house, built according to the sign in 1875.

Nice one Thomas, not a lot of people know that, I pass it often.

Comment by: Ron D on 12th December 2012 at 10:08

Took a picture of this for Streets in 1003,The house seems to have had money spent on it since then .
Toddington lane.Haigh.

Comment by: aitch on 12th December 2012 at 10:25

There is also a pub in Whittle le Woods on the A6 with the same name, every time I pass it I wondered how it got the name as they are miles from the sea. (this may be the one Fred Cunliffe means)

Comment by: Thomas(Tom)Walsh. on 12th December 2012 at 10:44

Brian, the house is situated on Toddington Lane ,Haigh . I can only imagine that the original owner had a whimsical sence of humour to give the house such a name, it most be at least 20 miles from the sea.

Comment by: Freda on 12th December 2012 at 11:39

Is this on the Chorley to Preston Rd?

Comment by: David Barker on 12th December 2012 at 15:04

Good clear photo Thomas,Toddington lane is on the bend where Haigh Rd and Riley Lane meet.About 100yds past seaveiw there was once a bridge over the Quarry now filled in if you stood on the bridge you could see Blackpool Tower.link to map.https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&tab=wl

Morning to all!! Could somebody tell me what the red square thing represents on the wall by the window, I was just wondering if it had any significance??? Cheers!!

Comment by: tricia on 12th December 2012 at 18:49

Hi Freda
The Sea View Hotel at Whittle/ Chorley is going towards Preston past Chorley Hospital and through the roundabout, a little way up the road on the right hand side.

Comment by: tricia on 12th December 2012 at 18:52

Forgot to say that the coast is visible from a lot of places in that area... Chorley/Brindle Euxton/Leyland

Lizzie Do you not comment on any of the Communication boards

Comment by: Mick on 12th December 2012 at 20:11

Lizzie down under the red square is probably the burglar alarm.

Comment by: Lizzie down under on 12th December 2012 at 20:16

Ann21 not at the moment, just learning the ropes and enjoying p-a-d and albums, cheers!!!

Comment by: Dave Thomas on 12th December 2012 at 20:37

Comment by: Ernest Pyke on 12th December 2012 at 22:21

A very good example of perspective, Tom.
The house is 133 years old (1873 underneath Sea View).

Comment by: Ernest Pyke on 12th December 2012 at 22:34

Correction to my comment - house is 137 years old ! (built 1875).
The short post on right is at same angle in Ron Dawber`s photo of June 2003 (1000 years later than stated in Ron`s comment !!

Comment by: Hugh Wilson on 12th December 2012 at 23:00

Ernest, This year is 2012. The house was built in 1873. My arithmetic tells me that 1873 plus 133 equals 2006. Surely you must have meant 139 years old????

Comment by: Ellen on 13th December 2012 at 00:46

I may be wrong, but I seem to remember a Large house on Chequer lane in Upholland Moor that was called Sea View.(and I'm not sure I spelled Chequer right!) The house I'm thinking of was past the brickworks.

Comment by: Brian from Massachusetts on 13th December 2012 at 01:10

Thanks Tom
Right up the street from where I grew up but don't recall the house. I must be getting old!!!!!!
