Photo-a-Day (Thursday, 22nd November, 2012)
Scotsmans Flash
A truly beautiful scene! What time of day?
What a beautiful picture Nev, just perfect, cheers!!
Hellu Nev, You`ve got the sun`s rays highlighting the yacht nicely.
Mick will be pleased to see the `wildlife` !
Scotsmans Flash
A Flash is a unique industrial legacy to Wigan and there are many around the Wigan area. Each are lakes formed as a result of mining subsidence. Scotsmans flash the largest of the “Wigan Flashes” is a designated site of scientific interest. This is due to the abundance of rare plant species, several species of orchid, extensive reed beds and migrating birds such as Reed and Sedge Warbler. Scotsmans flash is also a popular area with canoeists, walkers and is used by a yachting club.(Manchester`s Countryside)
I guess you could thank all those hard working miners with their mucky faces for these beautiful places that you all can go to and enjoy and for me to gaze upon on my iPad :-) cheers!!!
Theres a video here of the same flash.

Ellen, photo taken about 2 pm.
Super poto Nev. I like the way the yacht is highlighted by the sunlight on the water. You can get some very interesting and beautiful shots by shooting into the sun like this. Well taken.
love how you have catured the light on the water,
This is photo-a-day, not video-a-day Mick.
Brilliant photo Nev.
I know what it is Watchword but I was only passing on some information on the flash,
I know where there a video of Poolstock power station being blown up but Ill keep that to myself.
I'm sure everyone here would be grateful. Thanks Mick.
Great photo. Tranquil and calm.
NEV its a dinghy, not a yacht.
I never mentioned the word 'yacht'! Someone else with the name Nev has commented on the photo, and they called it a yacht. Anyroad Bill, I hope you like the shot!
Hello portland bill.
WIKIPEDIA states :-
"A dinghy is a type of small boat, often carried or towed for use as a ship's boat by a larger vessel. It is a loanword from either Bengali or Urdu. The term can also refer to small racing yachts or recreational open sailing boats. Utility dinghies are usually rowboats or have an outboard motor, but some are rigged for sailing. Because the smaller sailing dinghy responds more quickly to maneuvers, it is more suitable for beginner training in sailing than full-sized yachts."
SO YOU ARE WRONG !
Mick, I`ve just watched your video and would have liked the background music to be `Sailing By`. Refer :-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sailing_By
To listen to it refer :-

Here we go again EP..:o(
3 long winded posts on a silhouette pic.
All it needs is "Nice pic Nev" ;o)
Art, Did you read my comment at 03:16? Dave (Oy) Green has stated that he doesn`t want comments on his photo`s like that you state. It`s not a competition.
My last comments were in reply to previous comments.
There`s a lot of `chat` on P-a-D so why pick on me?
Think you will find its a sailing dinghy of the ENTERPRISE class. quite a robust one I may add. spent many an hour racing these one the flash.SO wind your neck in mr know all who has to refer to wikipedia for facts, (a website known for not telling the truth and making incorrect statements as well generalising)
Ernest there picking on you because theyve got nothing else to do.
Yout informative comments are keeping these photo of the day post going.
Comments are welcome, so is intelligent criticism...
Essays about what & how much you know should be left to the forum or communicate boards.
One of your questions earlier which should never have been asked by you, was: Where do I live....Answer: A damn sight nearer Wigan than Shevvy. You & mick should meet up...You're a perfect pair..;o)
This site is now getting ridiculous!
Your telling me it is!!!!!
Art, the communicate, general, would be the last thing I`d join. There`s not much intelligence there.
Why shouldn`t I ask where you live?
I was born in Diggle St., Wigan.
Ernest I was in Gidlow lane a couple of weeks ago and took some photos of that area including Diggle st.
I sent them into Brian for for photo of the day but non have appeared as yet.
OK Mick. There was a photo of Diggle St. on P-a-D 6th August 2012..
Ernie, I've been in more houses on your little estate than you can imagine. So I know that you aren't Digglin' now.
Just comment & stop acting like a signpost...."see my post/P-a-D etc"..not interested..;o)
Dont take him on Pyke you just carry on the way you have been doing.
If you wasnt on most of the comments would be Nice Photo Mate from the camera club brigade.
Why can't you stick to the subject? What's Diggle Street got to do with Scotsmans Flash?
Correct Loz;o)
