Refurbished crazy golf, Haigh Hall

Refurbished crazy golf, Haigh Hall
With the hard work and dedication of The Friends of Haigh Hall, they power washed the paths, cut the grass, repaired and painted the obstacles.

Now they are to run it. After years of neglect by the management. By next year they are to have the railway up and running.

Great job - well done. I will certainly have a go. Still young at heart (and a lot younger than Ernest) Fancy a game? We should have Photo-a-day participants battle. Sorry Lizzie Down Under and all other distant Wiganers.

Janice ,good idea, I'm up for it, if it comes to fruition, we would,in the future be able to put names to faces. We could send photographs. to Lizzie, and our other long distance friends who could be with us in spirit !.
I hope other devotees of the site feel interested in a game, and a cup of coffee in the cafe afterwards.

Great idea, count me in.

The track was declared unsafe late spring ,and the train hasn't run all summer.
The crazy golf is near the entrance to the walled gardens.

Comment by: cullie on 20th November 2012 at 16:29

i'll come and lay the new track after all thats my day time job .

Hi Janice! Yes it would take a mighty effort to get to Haigh Hall for a round of crazy golf. Maybe I should put it on my bucket list, hee hee!!! Cheers!!!

Comment by: Lizzie down under on 20th November 2012 at 17:47

Thomas that would be great to have a photo of you all, truly it should be the start of a social get together for you all which would be a support for Haigh Hall. I would definitely be there in spirit!!!! Cheers!!

Not the same railway Mick.
There were three railways at Haigh.
The miniature one next to the pitch and put which I understand is in storage awaiting the kind attention of the friends group. The one run by the council which Ron D refers to and the one run by the Wigan and District Model engineering society. The last one is is still very much in use.

Great to see the interest in the 'golf tournament'. As soon as it is officialy open and we have a nice day - let' do it!

Comment by: Ernest Pyke on 21st November 2012 at 10:56

Janice, in Mesnes Park, years ago, there were three bowling greens, a putting green and nine tennis courts.
Then the middle bowling green became a putting green and the putting green became a crazy golf course.
The putting green later reverted back to a bowling green.
The Restoration Project ref :-
http://www.wlct.org/open-spaces/parks/mesnes-park-restoration-project.htm
mentions a Bowling Pavilion.

Great photo - my grandson complains every time I take him to Haigh Hall about the crazy golf being closed he will be so pleased when it is in use again. Well done the friends of Haigh Hall - what a good job volunteers are doing in Wigan. Hindley Station, Sussex Close and the other 'In Bloom' volunteers also do an excellent job around the Borough.

Comment by: Rhys on 22nd November 2012 at 08:27

Rhys age 5 says I am very pleased the golf course will be open for me to play on it with Grannie Annie and my Grandma.
