Photo-a-Day (Tuesday, 18th September, 2012)
Market Street
Photo: Dave (Oy) (Nikon D700 with Nikon 24-70mm F2.8)
Another good shot Dave. Something needs to be done about the trees growing out of the roof.
Nice photo Dave. There are nearly as many trees growing from the tops of buildings as there are on the streets, it has always dismayed me that this tolerated. Is there no pride???
I enjoy these shots of Wigan streets. Is the store on the left with the blue facia the chippie or is it further down. Also did you photoshop the blue sky in, because my brother who lives in Wigan tells me he is still waiting for summer
Dave, It`s a great pity that you can see the Youth Zone - it never should have been sited there.
Have read your last comment on 25th April 2010 P-a-D.
Great pic Dave, wouldn't be too many places that have as much trees and grass growing from the top of the buildings as is in the street.
Fabulous Photo Dave, I always enjoy your pics, keep them coming.
Wonderful picture one of the best I have seen
Ive just counted 30 people on that photo.
And 14 clouds
40+ Mick
Another pic with interest Dave.
Goodness me Dave you certainly must have a head for heights ,as they say !!Another fabulous photo but I can`t get my bearings....pethaps its changed a lot since the 50`s??
Jean, How`s the webbed feet doing !!
I`m surprised that you are lost. The bobby on point duty in Market Place would be very close behind you.
Mick, was expecting to see a video of the Proms in Mesnes Park. Didn`t you go?
No Ernest I went to the Hodder Valley Show.
Looks fantastic compared to the 'old Wigan'
Jean, Queens Hall tower on the left, Wigan Grammar School clock in the distance.
Roy, Jean knows where Rylands factory chimney is. In this photo it`s behind the old grammar school which is now Thomas Linacre, an outpatients dept.of Wigan Infirmary
Thankyou all,for your help...still puzzled though. Yes i recognised the rylands mill chimney and the grammer school clock but I still dont know the street I`m on !!
Webbed feet are working well Ernest especialy last sunday ,it rained all day . Thanks all!
Market St Jean, you,re at the top of town near the ladies and gents toilets (white city) as it was known as. Also as Ernest says the bobby at the top of Wallgate, Standishgate, Library St was behind where the photo was taken. Go straight down the street across the junction and Thomas Linacre School was on the left and the Grammar School on the right and further on, Park Road, with an entrance to the park on the right.
Well, Jean, I`m amazed. In your comment at 15:41 on 16th Sept.`12 P-a-D, you mention the bus to Queensway which you caught outside Lowe`s in Market Place. Yhis bus then goes down Market Street, which this is and past the Queen`s Hall on the left. In other words, Market Street is a continuation of Market Place.
You didn`t answer my queation in my comment at 22:49 on 16th Sept.`12 if you`d seen photo #14100. This photo shows a bus at the stop lower down than the Queensway, Beech Hill stop and the dome on top of Queen`s Hall is clearly seen.
IT just doesnt look like the picture of market st as shown on the market square picture. Oh it doesnt matter !!!!I can see it all now !! Thanks to you all..
ROY,I can see it clearly now Thanks again.
I have just looked at ALL of the old photo`s of market place/street.
Won`t know where I am when I wake up in the morning !!The pictures certainly put me on the right road though!
Jean, you should have looked at the old photo I mentioned in the first place !!
