Photo-a-Day (Tuesday, 17th July, 2012)
Market Street, Hindley
Ha!Tom, you`ve answered my comment on 17th June at 21:32 on your P-a-D 16th June`12. Bet you don`t get 38 comments on this one!
Wonder if the person/persons that are with the car, parked mostly on the pavement, are inside the launderette.
When was this photo taken, Tom - on a Sunday? or early/late in the day.
In the late 40`s I had a pal who lived in Hindley (why isn`t it pronounced hind as the deer is!) and most Saturday nights we went in the Palace cinema.
Steel Shutter City
What launderette? It's a Takeaway.
It's a fast food outlet, their is more junk food shops in Market street than anywhere. The delivery drivers are the worst, the one's near the Lord Nelson pub and opposite the Church on the bend. Double yellow lines and parking on the pavment mean nothing to them.
Does Hindley Market still exist? not been there since C.1967
mick's a fool, most shops are closed.
Great to see a picture of Hindley. Great place, great people, will always be home to me.
You tell 'em Y.F.F.M
I used to enjoy sending photos to this page as I thought people would make sensible comments related to the artistic quality of the picture. Since the idiot who always tries to post first, who types before he even looks at the photo, and who inanely rattles on with stupid questions and comments has appeared, I have stopped sending photos for others to ENJOY!! What a shame!!
"J" don't waste your breath, the individual you are referring to is almost a protected species with some of the Wiganworld folk, they actually encourage him! I used to think that "Photo a Day" was really special, but putting up with this individuals asinine drivel means I don't look at it much anymore. I agree with you, "what a shame"!
Looked like a launderette to me as they are open when most shops are closed.
Colin, what are the objects inside? It`s not a food counter.
OH DEAR !!!!!!
Leave my little ernest alone !!
J and Syd its not a competition,if you want nice photo comments send your photos to a photo website where all the viewers will also be like you and leave comments like nice photo mate well done.
i just dont get what all the hot air blowing about is about. if someone wants to park on the pavement so be it leave em to it at the end of the day its them who get 60 smackers taken out the old sky rocket. hmmmmmm smackers
J,and Syd,I hope you don't mind my saying,
I think you are being rather harsh on Earnest,
and his nocturnal comments,many people
enjoy the comments section,as much as the photographs, and it is of course up to each viewer to read or ignore as they wish,
I suspect the picture was taken after 6pm, cause the shops are shut. Only the many takeaways and pubs open in the evening. Most shops are thankfully still trading and like most places these days, need shutters to protect their windows from being smashed or their premises being broken into. Sadly the once thriving market finished quite a few years ago, its just a car parking area now and a place to hold the weekly carboot sales on Sundays. The people of Hindley are still mainly good people, just some who spoil it for others, like anywhere.
take note this is what all towns will looklike every day if the bus passes are taken away cos its only the bus pass brigade going to towns and markets, here there and everywhere they do spending and having dinners in the little tea shops ,and all the while keeping active which means less of a dry on the health service .nuff said.
should read drain on the health service .
Thanks, alan. As a member of the "'bus-pass brigade" come October, I am thrilled to hear that!
(Although, with the new rules, I will have to wait nearly two years for my bus-pass, so probably can't afford tea-and-cakes in Hindley when I get there!)
Competent street scene, lacks atmosphere.
Well J and Syd, you obviously do still visit and read this page - otherwise you would not be making comments on it! The title for the page is Photo a Day - not competionion Photo or Who caqn send the best photo! I am a keen, new photographer and bery much enjoy seeing what other people like to photograph. Ernest makes some very keen and valid comments and observations and as far as I am concerned is an absolute treasure - and as far as Dirty Harry is concerned - I love his ability to grump and be contentious. Keep it up chaps. J and Syd, if you don't like it it's obvious what you need to do - dont' visit, don't read.
Thanks Mick, Jean, Tom and Janice. Would you tell us, Tom, when was this photo taken?
I`ve never tried to be the first to post a comment, as there`s no point in doing so.
J and Syd, are you the same persons who made comments on my Photo-a-Day on 3rd April 2012?
Janice and co should be on face-book and not WW, they don't make one comment about the photos they just whinge about other people. If people make silly comments DONT anwser to it...they just want a reaction from people like YOU. Dirty Harry is a fine example. Lets grow up.
Ernest , the photograph was taken aprox.
8-30,pm.
Get your facts right ALAN HURST as we do make comments about photo`s and as Mick and Janice say, P-a-D is not a photo competition.
OK, Tom, but which day?
Do you mean silly comments like yours, Alan Hurst?? Janice TAKES some of the photos. (Do you???)
hindley is a cross with a middle east country with all the kebab shops and take aways and borsdane ave shops ressemble the bronks,i used to think i was working class till i visited hindley then realised i was upper class
