That hill in the background looks like that old slag heap near to Aspull

I think you`ve got something on the camera lens, Tom. Is it rain?
Mention bees to us older folk and the name Arthur Askey springs to mind. For the younger viewers Arthur Askey was a well known comedian and sang "The Bee Song".

THE BEE SONG
(Kenneth Blain, 1938)
Oh what a glorious thing to be,
A healthy grown up busy busy bee,
Whiling away
The passing hours
Pinching all the pollen
From the cauliflow'rs.
I'd like to be a busy little bee,
Being just as busy as a bee can be,
Flying round the garden
Brightest ever seen,
Taking back the honey
To the dear old queen.

Chorus:
Bz bz bz bz, honey bee, honey bee,
Bz if you like but don't sting me.
Bz bz bz bz, honey bee, honey bee,
Bz if you like but don't sting me.

Oh what a glorious thing to be,
A healthy grown up busy busy bee,
Toying with the tulips,
Tasting ev'ry type,
Building up the honeycomb
That looks like tripe.
I'd like to be a busy little bee,
Being just as busy as a bee can be,
Flying all around
In the wild hedgerows,
Stinging all the cows
Upon the parson's nose.
Chorus:

Oh what a glorious thing to be,
A healthy grown up busy busy bee,
Visiting the picnics,
Quite a little tease,
Raising little lumps
Upon the maidens' knees.
I'd like to be a busy little bee
Being just as busy as a bee can be,
Flirting with the butterfly
Strong upon the wing.
Whoopee! O death
Where is thy sting?
Chorus:

Oh what a glorious thing to be,
A healthy grown up busy busy bee,
To be a good bee
One must contrive,
For bees in a beehive
Must behive.
But maybe I wouldn't be a bee,
Bees are all right when alive, you see,
But when bees die
You really should see 'em,
Pinned on a card
In a dirty museum.
Chorus:

Lovely aspect to your garden Thomas. I see you wisely took this from the safety of indoors! Hope he keeps the bees and sends you the honey!

Comment by: Mick on 11th July 2012 at 07:52

I like his pink marigolds

Comment by: Clarky on 11th July 2012 at 08:51

No problem Michael, Mick is a winde up merchant.

Comment by: Gary on 11th July 2012 at 08:56

Boring photo.

Comment by: Ernest Pyke on 11th July 2012 at 11:05

After seeing Janice`s comment, I hadn`t realised you were indoors Tom. So it`s some `spots` on your window !!

Comment by: Thomas(Tom )Walsh on 11th July 2012 at 14:39

Earnest,I am afraid the spots are a calling
card from one of our feathered friends. We are fortunate to have a great variety of birds
in the garden ,but some seem to find the windows a convenient lavatory,

Comment by: dirty harry on 11th July 2012 at 15:44

oh for crying out loud from poets corner to sing along make it stop please.

Comment by: WCML on 11th July 2012 at 16:54

Comment by: Loz on 11th July 2012 at 17:04

Aye Mick, looks like the Wutchie!

Comment by: Ellen on 11th July 2012 at 19:25

Thanks for that, Ernest. I had quite forgotten that song-(and,indeed Arthur Askey himself). What a lot of time we used to while away enjoying Arthur and his ilk on the radio, prior to the acquisition of the "idiot box".It seems to me we each had our own mental images of the performers, which were sometimes more flattering than the images on TV!

Comment by: Jean F (Wales) on 11th July 2012 at 21:35

Don`t know who is worse.....Mick or dirty harry ........I think mick is trying to steal your thunder D.H.

Comment by: Janice on 11th July 2012 at 21:53

Well done in reviving the song Ernest. I remember it fairly well though pretty young at the time! And Dirty Harry music and poetry will always be a welcome part of our existence. If you don't like the Bee Song, what about Oh What a Picture by Tommy Steele? Music belongs to the Happy and serene, Poetry to the wise and knowledgeable. Beginning to wonder which category you fall into! GARY - get a life! evrything you touch, see or hear, taste or smell holds interest of some kind. The 5 senses. Have you no sense? What holds your interest. Can't wait to see your photos.

Comment by: Ernest Pyke on 11th July 2012 at 23:38

Thanks Ellen and Janice. I`m delighted by your appreciation.
Wonder how many of the viewers remember Arthur Askey.
Agree entirely Janice about Gary.
Jean, I`m convinced that there`s someone using Mick`s name to comment.

Comment by: Mick on 12th July 2012 at 05:19

Your right Ernest there is and it wont be the first time

Comment by: Jean F (Wales) on 12th July 2012 at 21:07

I`m wondering if Mick and Dirty harry are the same person....think they(he) is having us on !!

Comment by: Ernest Pyke on 12th July 2012 at 22:07

Jean, I think you are totally wrong, definitely not the same person.

Comment by: Gary on 13th July 2012 at 10:09
