Heinz 57 - Kitt Green
Mick,Jamie Ford`s photo on P-a-D 20th May`12 was a similar view to this.
Roy and I made comments re the first Heinz factory in Bradley Lane, Standish.
Fred Mason mentioned a pub near by the Kitt Green factory and I asked if it was the Old Springs and didn`t get a reply.
Whereabouts did you take his photo from Mick?
Kitt Green at last!
Would be nice to see some more localised photos of Kitt Green...I was born and brought up there. Lots of happy memories. Thanks Mick.
They built near a council house estate so they had plenty of them council house types to work for them but didnt now they would sooner be on benefits.
Ernest it was taken from Ashurst
Beacon when I watching the kite festival a few weeks ago.
The pub next to Heinz factory is the Old Springs.
I think Fred Mason lives in Wigton Cumbria now so he might have forgot some of the landmarks.
It reminds me of the days when you could see large ships passing through the Manchester Ship Canal, when the funnels used to tower above the houses.
Yep, the pub near Heinz is the old springs and very nice it is.
Bradshaw`s Girl, put `kitt green` in search box above this photo and you`ll get some photo`s !!
Thanks Mick and Dan. Is the bowling green st the Old Springs still there?
Dave Marsh, it was a regular occurence being held up at road bridges over the Manchester Ship canal when ships were there !!
bake beans from heinz are a danger to the ozone layer i think yall no were im comming from nuff said......i'll get mi coat
Ernest i think you'll find the Old Springs has been pulled down
John, it's the old engine that has gone and been replaced with 6 houses very close together! on the junction of Spring Rd and Gathurst Rd.
Ernest, the bowling green is still there but isn't use as one any more.
John I think youll find the Old Engine and the Lathom House have been pulled down but not the Old Springs
If the 'Old Springs' has been pulled down, then we are worse off. It had so much atmosphere especially with the bowling green. I know we have to move with the times, but to lose such a charismatic pub...ahhhh well..!!
All I can say is thank goodness I grew up in Norley in the fifties...God bless.
John, it's the Old Engine that's been pulled down.
to MICK.MY FAMILY LIVED ON THAT COUNCIL ESTATE,MY DAD ACTUALLY WORKED ON BUILDING HEINZ.MUST WEEKS HE WORKED SEVEN DAYS A WEEK NEVER LESS THAN SIX BRING UP A FAMILY ON THE PITANCE THEY PAY FOR WAGES AROUND WIGAN,I and my brother both left Wigan,if some people choose to go on benefits who s to blame them the way the goverment in London wastes money fighting wars they never win not to mention the wealth of the south and the near poverty of the north.
michael davies australia, you don`t mention the millions given to immigrants and their families.
St Andrew's and Sacred Heart churches at Springfield are both clearly visible centre left of the photo.
Thanks for the link , Ernest. I'm a Kitt Greener as well , Bradshaws Girl... the early part of my life , anyway. I can't believe they pulled the Old Engine and Lathom House down !!!!!!!
Whatever next?!!!
Yes Ernest your right the Labour goverment over here treates the illegal boat people better than the pensioners who payed taxs all their working life and no doubht the same happening in the UK.We should fly them back to were they came from like the Yanks do with the Mexicans every day.
