A Woodland Walk

Once, when a-walking in Woodland Glade,
I saw such a funny man, sat in the shade,
with a coat of blue, and hat of green,
his trousers were red as ever I’d seen,
Black high-legged boots shone like the sun.
whilst his eyes had a look, that was full of fun,
The hair was of copper, just touched with gold,
yet his beard was white, looking ever so old.
His hands were so tiny, fingers so small.
But then, you see, he was just two feet tall.

This story my seem much taller to you,
but how can YOU say that it isn’t true?
Have you ever walked in a woodland glade,
never wondered what it was you saw,
in the shade?

It was there for a moment, then it had fled,
Was it a green hat, or copper gold head?
You have to be quiet, as still as can be,
if forest bred creatures, you desire to see,
for only those eyes which are quick and bright,
are able to see such a wonderful sight.

YOU, pause for a moment when next you are there,
take time in the woodland, to stop and to stare,
and, if not my little man, something as nice,
you will see in the wood,
if you’re quiet, like mice
