You can't put a price on an pleasant open space in any Town.Space should be a major part of any planning. So sad to see happy days become just memories in your head.

All I see is a future premium site office block for rent from Whelcough Holdings PLC, Wigan Academy my a***!

Sheer vandalism, probably some Roman remains being destroyed as well.

I totally agree.. vandals the lot of them. They will not be happy until the have ruined every green area the town ever had.As for 'planning' , they do not know the meaning of the word. They would be better suited to somewhere like Milton Keynes where they could install more plastic animals amid the rubbish buildings they would cover the landscape with.

Why couldn't they just use the old army recruitment place on the opposite side of the field, theres loads of space in it and the field could have been uses sports,

My sentiments exactly, Cyril.

I think it`s scandalous siting it there, but Cyril, it`s not an Academy, see http://www.wiganyz.org/

My old school field, shocking

Comment by: Al C. on 24th April 2012 at 10:20

There are many empty places in Wigan that would have done for a youth centre, the lower level of Marketgate has been virtually empty for years and only a short walk from the field.

Dare I send this picture to my 81year old brother I wonder?! He was at the grammer school in the 40`s and loved playing cricket there.......

Jean F (Wales) If you want your brother to have a heart attack send the photo, if you love him, Don't
