A remaining bit of old Wigan

A remaining bit of old Wigan
Friend of mine pointed out this huge gatepost at the corner of Baileys Court. Must have been too big to move when they built the bus station. On the 1891 Ordinance survey there is a block shown just where this Gatepost is.

Bailey's Court? Is that one of the synthetic new names dreamt up by councillors who, over many years, have lined their pockets by destroying Wigan's REAL architectural heritage? God rot the ********!

Wonder what was around that gatepost many years ago, a field, a house ?

As for your councillors...seems to me you need some new ones !

Good picture by the way, is that off Hallgate where the slaughter house used to be and Burns glass cutting place ?

Michael, Bailey's Court is the name of a large area on the 1891 Ordinance Survey map.

It will still be parked there regardless of number plate blurring, the car belongs to the Army recruitment officer.
Good luck in stealing it.

Yes, I stand corrected about the name Bailey's Court.

But my opinion of the venality and corruption of certain Wigan councillors over the years remains unaltered.

Their greed has damaged the town beyond recall.
