Toe
That's a very sweaty foot
I remember polishing that toe as a kid and I still do when ever I visit. Looks like it needs a polish.
Good shot Mick
I have given that toe a rub many times.
Francis Sharp Powell?
pity about the shoe/boot nice to see the top of the pavilion.
have rubbed that a time or to !! can't say it brought me much luck
rubbed that a few times in the 50s
Sir francis Sharp Powell has shot himself in the foot.
cant believe how many times i rubbed that foot as a little girl..then later on with my own children and grandchildren xx
My Dad used to lift me up to rub that shoe on beautiful Summer days, and in the Winter, when it was foggy and freezing, I used to sit by the fire in our little terraced house, and imagine Sir Francis sitting there in Wigan Park in the icy darkness and it made me feel so warm and cosy by our fire. In later years I held my son and daughter up to rub the shoe for luck, and it must have worked because my son now lifts a lttle boy and girl up to do the same; I hope it is lucky for them too.
Memories,memories from long ago.

The Pavilion is due to open in Feb/March this year and Fredericks cafe will move back in there once completed.
At present the cafe is located in he playshack situated in the Playarea until work on the Pavilion is complete.
We were told as children that if you rubbed the shoe, and ran round the statue three times you would find a sixpence . Did it every Sunday never found a sixpence , one Sunday I did find a threepenny bit, so the story must have been right.
Re above last line should read so the story must have been half right. Still getting used to this contraption. Sorry .
