Sitting Scared
Photo: Rev David Long (Konica Minolta Dynax 7D)
A lovely colored bird the most common bird in Britain.
Awww bless her..I hope she soon comes round.
Surely Rev Long there's too much Green to be a Chaffinch, I think it's a Greenfinch. A lovely photo though. I do hope it made a full recovery. ( female Chaffinch have shades of grey/brown, white wing -bars)
This is definitely a Chaffinch - but could be a juvenille male.
Maureen - she did indeed come round after about half an hour, and flew off. Walt - it is a chaffinch - I've a series of pics of a male adult feeding its young, with very similar colouring to this one. We have had greenfinches in the garden, so I know they're more strikingly coloured than this. As Mick says, it's the most common bird in Britain, though I'd not seen as many elsewhere as we get here in Wigan.
Well, i'll bow to your superior knowledge Rev David. Here in Nth Yorkshire we get a lot of finches, in our garden its not uncommon to see greenfinch, chaffinch, goldfinch and bullfinch as well as siskin a cousin to the finch familly. We
have seen 40 goldfinch all at the same time at the bottom of the garden waiting their turn to feed on our feeders.
