Signal Box?
Note by Brian: I emailed Ian to ask where it was taken and haven't had a reply yet... I think I know where it is but hopefully Ian will confirm.

Looks too high up and not enough windows to be a signal box.
Good question maybe its a fancy water tower and I think its at the back of Great George St.
It does look like the one that I could see that from our back bedroom window in Great George Street.
c'mon ,Harry,tell us.
TGWU AT BACK O POST OFFICE
your right mick great george st
There is a photo on the Album taken at Wigan Northwest Station in the 1960's looking north and you can make out this building in the background, it could have been signal box 1 has there is a mention in the 'I Remember' section about the signal boxes 1 and 2 being closed upon electrification, and that signal box 2 was on the south side of the station. No doubt someone will know.
Sorry Brian don't think I received your email, the picture was took in Great George St, I work at North West Seating which is situated next to this building.
Hi, Always interested in this. I went to the history shop, years ago to enquire. All I could find out is: nothing to do with railways. A mill was there: this might have been a storage tower? Anyone else can light on this?
Its still in very good condition so somebody must be maintaining it.
May be wrong, but I think money was spent in this area under the City Challenge scheme in the 90's.
Is the redeveloped area known as Tower Enterprise Park? (Former mill water tower)
May have also once been part of what became the Protector Safety factory 80's/90's
Yes it is called Tower Enterprise Park. Thanks for your comments
Went up there many times when I worked at Plessey. It was in the Plessey factory yard.
It's definitely not the signal box, because that was by the track at the top of the embankment, you could actually see this building from inside the signal-box. I visited the signal-box often, because my dad was one of the signalmen for Wallgate box
I think this building was a water tower for a factory that used to be at the back of Wallgate, understand they used to make aviation (pilots) goggles of all things!
It's Not a signal box.
I worked in Wigan no 2 signal box for seven years on top of the embankment at the north end of the station, not the south.
