People in town dressed like that 50 years ago would have been gawped at,life is funny.

People would have though there washing machine had shrunk all there clothes.

Not a flat cap or trilby in sight.
Whats the council coming to ?.

Wonder if people these days ever look in a mirror?

If they were to look in a mirror it would probably be one of those from an amusement park that makes everything look odd. That way they would look normal.

Everyone is entitled to dress the way they want to.These people dont even know they are being photographed and then put on a website.Im sure all you slagging them off are dressed impeccably hiding behind your nasty comments.I love this website and photos of old Wigan but taking photos of people in this way is just wrong.

People are allowed to comment on here, that is what this site is all about and like you, everyone is allowed their own opinion.
As a matter of fact YES I am nicely dressed at the moment, so do not be so unpleasant in future. THAT is what spoils this website, not people making innocent remarks.

I can't see anyony "Slagging" people off but you Vic, yes it is up to people how they dress, and it must be said most people to day have no dress sence at all. I never when to the pub or club on Friday and Saturday nights wearing jeans and trainers etc etc, People have every right to comment on this site. So I think an apology to Tricia is in order.

Tricia, if you bother to look at your first remark you will see it is YOU that is being unpleasant, if that is an innocent remark i would hate to see what one of your nasty ones would be.

Vic do you not agree with people taking photos of sporting event as well?

I personally take photos of anything thats in front of me, if they dont want to be taken they can hide.

I think all of the negative comments about the present day and harping on about how everything was so much better is the past is incredibly tiresome.

Firstly, sorry about the spelling mistakes, I was a bit tired.

Sh..you're comments are negative and boring, who is talking about the past?? I dress in order to suit the occasion and its certainly not jeans and t-shirt etc.
Vic said people are entitled to dress the way they want to, yes it is up to them, but come on, some of us do have standards of quality and for me thats how people are measured.
So Vic and Sh...I suggest you consider you're comments before posting them and maybe we can all start again.

Get real David, people always look photogenic when they are caught unaware or without knowing. Most of these people will be pleased their on Photo-a-Day, so please stop being a dull repetitious person.

i agree with vic. these pics are being put on here without peoples concent and are being called for the way they dress, people can dress how they like weather its in the park, in the pub or in the garden.. really shouldnt matter to anyone else as its doing them no harm is it? the ones who are arrogant and ignorant are the ones who sit there sniggering and name calling just cos they dont like the way someone is or dresses, as if the way they dress is the "right" way!!. anyway good pic, i like the people about town ones.. always look to see if i can spot someone i know :)

Well this is the first time on here for me. I came to get way from the augments on the "General" section, and find it just as bad.
How people dress is a personal thing, so what's the problem? As long as no one tells me how to, then I won't comment one their dress, what I saw was a good picture of a day in Wigan.

Only just become a member of this site so sorry for the delayed comment. Great pictures of people going about their everyday life - and what valuable archival material they will be in years to come. Would we have known about dress of yesteryear without the photos?
