Progress

The concrete jungle,no character at all
I think it's took shape already...can't be much more to be done outside. When you drive from King st towards the Life centre, it really does stand out from the other buildings.
I myself thought nothing wrong with the old baths, apart from a little refurbishment. good photo Brian.
Beautiful
Modern Wigan has no Peer.
Are they terracotta tiles?
Agree with Mick. Nice building ,clean lines .Better than Victorian stuff with terracotta dressing.
I can't see that still being around in 100 to 200 years time, whereas the Victorian buildings will still be standing, that's if the council leaves them alone.
Modern Wigan does have a Peer Mick, he's the Lobby Ludd of Leith.
Just my opinion, but what an eyesore !!! Sorry guys, cannot agree.. it certainly sticks out alright, but not for the right reasons. RIP Wigan Baths.
My worry is... what next?????
I agree with Tricia......there doesn`t look much life in it to me.
I agree with the majority above. The old-fashioned lamp-post to the left of the pic is more to my taste, and the fact that it ISN'T old, just a reproduction, shows that new buildings could have been built with that in mind. However, I realise we all see things in a different way.
Another featurless box..:o(
Excuse me,but isn't that a directional sign, rather than a lamp post?
I meant the one furthest left, almost off the picture, Ellen. But I like the directional sign as well.
Good clear photo Brian, bet the window cleaner seeing ££££ signs...
It is an excellent building and a bold statement on the elevation approaching on the Riverway. But then I suppose, as per usual, some morbid Wigan folk would much rather the drab, asbestos riddled dross that was there beforehand.
People like me who are born and bred in Wigan have every right to voice their opinion on matters concerning new buildings. But what's more important is the old buildings the Councils are demolishing for the space to build these eyesores. What you have to remember is...is the new building better than the old, in many cases no their not.
Well said John, spot on.
They have to be better than some of the old ones in town. A few being the Social building, The police station and those high rise flat buildings. I know before everyone starts saying they are not old, they are to me and there are the ones that look the worse.
