Leander
Photo: John Morris (Nikon D700 with a 24-85mm Nikkor lens.)
the train now leaving platform 4 is for the joy of steam
Another good shot John as Leander goes off into the night belching steam and smoke, very nostalgic. Where was it heading and where is Leander normally Based? I’m thinking Carnforth, maybe?
Lovely Loco. Jubilee class, built in Crewe in 1936, 3 years after I was born.
Thanks for the comment Honk. Leander was heading for Lancaster and you are quite right it is based at Carnforth. It is used quite regularly on "The Fellsman" train over the Settle to Carlisle route.
Fantastic photo, thanks again John.
Wonderful! Thankyou.
As peterp says, the absolute joy of steam. Oh to go back to those days ...
lovely photo rememeber going southport many a time on a steam train sticking my head out the window and ending up with a dirty face...happy innocent days
Agree with everyone else's comments..there is something about a steam locomotive that gets you.
Seeing the number of people down at the station this afternoon here where I live, The Poppy Line attracts people like bees round a honey pot !
A very nice shot John. I enjoy taking photos of steam trains myself, i must make a point of finding out when they are in Wigan.
Could be a shot straight from the steam era, terrific picture full of atmosphere. But you wouldn't have seen it so clean in BR days!
Reminds me of all the hours spent sitting on the wall at Springs Branch spotting.
Some photograph -some camera!
Hubby is getting well spoilt with these pictures.....thankyou.
Great picture
