Not many shoppers about but perhaps it wasn't Thursday.

I can still see people queuing around Woolworth's corner ,to go to the Ritz. Not complaining, just reminiscing.

Me too Ron, stood in a Ritz queue many a time but not as far back as Woolies !

once when it was very cold and you had to queque there was a door into Wollies down the side and we used to take it in turns to go in for a warm whilst the others stood in the cold , and then you would hear Billy shout 4 more, and you then had to come again and join in the queque. in those days shops stayed open very late

I too remember long,long queue`s to the ritz ,suppose it depended what film was on.
1953 when I left Wigan,so pardon my igmorance.......Is the grand arcade standidng where the ritz cinema was ?.lots of happy memories of the ritz ...and the empress ballroom across the road..good dances there...oh happy memories.
