The ice cream man will make good money after that boiling weekend, and without the van moving...still, they must make up for the bad winter we have just had, good luck to them all.
Why are they obstructing passage along the drive and not queuing parallel to it?
This is what us British are very good at thats queuing up.
You can go all over the world and you wont find better nation for queueing.
This brings back so many memories of baking hot Sunday afternoons, going to Haigh Hall with my parents.....driving through the cool, shady plantations on the "tractor", (fare 3d), then getting off at the end of the drive up to the hall into glorious sunshine.
Ernest & Mick, you two are good at MOURNING aswell.
Just let the people get on with it!
Tractor fare 3d... your going back a bit.
I remember the Tractor. I think it started at the main gates at Wigan lane, turned left along the Douglas and worked its way to up Haigh Hall. As kids, ee used to jump on the back to get a free ride for a few yards.
Ernie, can't see much traffic going up and down the drive. What a site for the ice cream man to see all those people.
Yes Alf, I'm going back to around 1958-1962 or so, when I would have been 6-10 years old. My friend's grandad used to take the fares and it was 3d, but he would often let us on free.
looking forward to this weekend,my daughter is getting married at 3pm in haigh hall, dont think weather will be as nice as last week just praying its dry.
wedding on sunday
is Haigh Hall the only place to visit round Wigan then?
Hope all goes well Josie.....have a wonderful day!
PAULINE, you dont sound like a Wiganer, because if you was you would know Wigan has more beautiful places to offer than any other town.
its just that it seems to be the only beauty spot that is ever photographed on here don't people ever get more out and about and photograph all the other beautiful places around Wigan was what i meant!
