I don't recognise that. Where is it ?

Life Centre ? How long will it stand I wonder, before the site is needed for something more important...3 score years & 10 ?

Alan - it's the site of the old baths. The old Library at the bottom of Library street can be seen directly behind the red crane.

This place is going to dominate the skies by the size of that self-erecting crane. This so called Life Centre is going to be big and tall, why? Wigan baths should never have been demolished in the first place, all it needed is a few quid spending to bring it up to date. But thats all history now. Well done Wigan Council, your good at wasting money and buildings alike.

Excuse my ignorance but what is a "Life Centre"? Does anybody know?

This might be able to answer your question Julie.

Government lets the over 60s have free swimming then knock the baths down ,then spend millions on this very strange?????

Thank you Emma. It's a big building for a weight watching club! Don't you think?

I think its going to look ace. Yes we should keep some parts of history but wigans baths were terrible for access! problems in there could not be fixed with a paint job and a couple of ramps.

I love old buildings and would love to keep all of them but i also would love to be able to go swimming with my son like everyone else can.

its going to be much better. just hope they actually do a good job at ashton pool now!

I thought a new swimming center was being built on this site. That was the idea of pulling the old one down/ what happend.

Where was you stood when you took this photograph Dave?

Comment by: Ferg on 16th May 2010 at 14:55

A waste of good buildings? Yes I would much rather we kept the asbestos ridden old baths for the sake of something new and generally a little less life threatening.

The face of Wigan is changing and for the better. Yet with hoards of people complaining that half of Wigan is rotting and the other half is being tainted with the new what do they suggest? Actually scrap that question, I couldn't bear the hilarious answers.

Come a few years when the old Town hall and Tower grand sites are in use and this side of Wigan will be a great beacon to the town.
