How many of you owd uns remember the pub on the canal bank there? The building with the red car in front of it was'The Merrick Arms'. It closed in the early 50s.

I knew it was the Merrick and think that I remember the old wooden sign being up when I was young.

Also remember the Langton family living there.

when I was a lad my grandma used to work for mrs langton and she would walk there and back down the cut when she lived in martland mill in winter she used to take a torch so she could see where she was going.

My Dad remembers going to the "Merrick Arms" walking along the canal from the Royal Oak at standish lower ground the merrick was famouse for its cider, you was topped up from a pitcher , this popular watering hole had its own orchard at the rear from which they brewed their own cider
