Is this Dave Shep the dave shepherd who married Sandra and had a daughter named Alison and eventually became a firefighter at Wigan and then in Wales. If anyone knows I would be pleased to hear

Yes it is, he used to live in Whelley, and later in Goose Green.

Sorry, I haven't seen him in ages. We used to work together at Leyland Motors, and went to Bolton college with others from Leyland. Didn't know he was in Wales.
