Does anyone know why the large open area marked with an ? was ? I would presume that the area at one time was covered with old houses?? Maybe early 19th cen. and probably were in such a bad state they were demolished.

Ron, I remember this was pretty much vacant land in the 1950’s, had my dad had still been alive he would have 116.
The Morris Street kids used to build their bonfires here and we kids from the Harrogate Street mob used to raid it.
So much to remember in this photo and so much is lost forever. Central Station, Central Park, Ritz Cinema, Market Hall, the list goes on and on.

i think this was an area behind the scholes picture house and i think it was called the breyd for some reason
