These young gunners in the regular army before WW2 were all from Wigan. They include my Uncle, David Bennett, who's the one furthest to the left on the photograph. War on Germany was declared very soon after Uncle David left the army, so he was soon back in again. He was at Dunkirk and spent much of the war in fighting in Burma. He died in his 90s.

I wonder where that photo was taken?It looks like a ceremonial or training gun.

I might be clutching at straws here but, the treeline on the horizon looks like Haigh as viewed from Beech Hill / Gidlow, could this picture have been taken at what then would have been the new Royal Ordnance Factory at the top of Gidlow Lane ? (later to become Tupperware and then Milliken).
