London Euston, its next stop will be Wigan North Western station.
Love these photos Ray. Memories of trainspotting at Whitley with my pals in the early 50s and when the loco was a speck in the distance one would shout , its a JUB or whatever and the high point was, ITS A SCOT.
Can remember train spotting on North West station in the late fifties/early sixties when the 5 o'clock "prinnie" would come roaring through platform four on its way to Preston and beyond.Always a princess class engine.
Hi P.B., your comments bring back memories frim the early to mid 1960s
when me and my mate Tommy Owens would catch a train from Edge Hill
station on a Saturday morning to Wigan North Western and remain on
the station until about 4 p.m. A particular train that we looked out for
was the 10a.m. London-Perth which passed through Wigan about 12.45.
The locomotive on this train always looked like it had just had a major
overhaul and fresh coat of paint, perhaps a Scottish based machine ,
e.g. Duchesse of Buccleugh etc. on its way home. Cheers, Ray.
Sister engine Princess Elizabeth holds record for steam non stop London to Glasgow and still in running order today. A beautiful engine .
