The bicycle that I had, as a boy in 1943, was a second hand Hercules.
This make of bicycle was not mentioned amongst those advertised. Was it still being manufactured.
Albert - those Hercules bikes must have been well-built... the company was requisitioned to make transport aircraft during the war.... ;-))
The first bike I got was a Hercules Then when I passed my 11+My parents bought me a RALEIGH as a present.
Remember when Claude butler was the bees knees
Ron. The bicycle Raleigh was the next one that I had, but still second hand.
I remember a tiny Halfords shop down wallgate opposite Wigan pier about 1953. I think my bike was from there, red Raleigh with no gears do not remember riding it home but remember looking at them.
Peter. I got my first adult bike in the late 40s from the shop you mentioned in Wallgate, and at that time it was owned by Tom Hughes My second bike, around 1953, was again from Tom Hughes, by which time he had moved to Mesnes St. Don't remember Halfords taking over the Wallgate shop, only remember the one in Standishgate almost opposite Woolworths.
