I attended this church quite a few years ago. Bill Rigby, a retired Wigan Borough Police Officer, his burial service was conducted in this church. I cannot remember as to whether, or not Amy’s funeral service was held, in this church, as well. I know that I attended both funerals.
Amy is buried in this church it says on her grave WPC No 1
A great skill is needed to create an illuminated scroll like this. My grandfather was presented with one when he retired from Wigan Mining & Technical College. I only have a digital photo of it but it is in good hands. I have seen similar ones to the one posted in churches up & down the country, there is a smaller one in Upper Sheringham. Good that those who gave their lives are remembered in this way
Thank you Mick. When you get aged, you attend so many funerals
, you forget where they were.. When young, you attend mostly weddings, when old, you attend mostly funerals.
Mick. Is Bill Rigby’s grave in this church cemetery?. I seem to recollect that his brother was buried in this church cemetery. I believe he had served in the R.A. F. If my memory serves me right.
I was born in Parbold and was baptised in this church in 1949. My mum and her mum are buried in the churchyard and on the odd occasion that I visit their grave I go to see that of Amy Holt who I had the pleasure of working with when I served in the Police at Wigan
