Wigan postcard

On a recent trip to lovely Wigan from Oz i took on a promise to an aunt in Melbourne to send a postcard. I did a fair walk around the old town and found history, characters and the real England but ya reckon i could find a postcard .Nah'. I sent her one from Blackpool but it just wasn't the same. Really, Wigan deserves a greeting card just as much as London or any place in France.[or am i just hopelessly old fashioned]
I would put this photograph from the early 1990s as the picture on the bottom left hand side is in the Galleries.
I echo Gary's comments. Wigan should have picture postcards extolling the geography of the town. The Council's marketing dept needs a kick up the rectum!! In any other town/city postcards are readily available!
Is it really the Council's job to sell postcards? Most old postcards I've seen have been produced by local photographers who've spotted a money-making opportunity. It's not the Council's fault that no one fancies taking the financial risk. Some here would soon complain about the Council wasting Council-tax-payers' cash on such a venture.
Where is top left picture of the canal?
Surely a Wigan entrepreneur who is adventurous, and has a photographic skill, could take up the business.
As with paintings, there are so many outlets, through high street shops, and the internet.
It is just a thought.
OW it's the bridge where the wigan Rowing Club had their boathouse, probably the most photographed bridge on this site.
Gary, they usually have Wigan Postcard in The History Shop, (or The Museum of Wigan Life as it's now called), on Library Street. I bought one a few months ago.
Thanks Irene. I did come across some historical cards when i was in there. Peggy the lifesaving dog is pinned to my fridge.
This picture must have been after 1989 as construction of the the clock tower on the Wigan Pier/Orwell was only begun around Oct/Nov of that year.
Peggy the lifesaving dog is pinned to my fridge.
That's just cruel.
Your probably right Sarg' but she does have a view of sorts. Its preferable to a box in the cupboard. And she gets to tell her story.
