Kittywake taken in 1985 If you visited the Wigan as you were museum, school classroom etc you could then ride in Kittywake up the canal to Trencherfield Mill.

Was this converted barge called Claymore before Kittywake?

Before the Rev "Barges" in, it's a Barge Lizzie and not a Narrow boat.

When I patrolled this part of Wallgate, in the late fifties, and early sixties, what a depressing area this was. There was just a mix of drab, dark, warehouses. It was referred to then as Wigan Pier. The council did an excellent job, in that they made it into an interesting place, where people could go, and relive local history. as can be seen in this photograph. Has it changed much since this photograph was taken?

Albert after the council had spent millions doing the area up it is slowly going back to its derelict state
