Great War Victory Medal for Ince
Great War Victory Medal for Ince

This, sadly incomplete, medal was given to me today. I knew such medals were struck, but this is the first I've seen. I scanned it, which resulted in the strange effect you see - all that is raised on the medal itself appears to be indented here - but this allows the writing to be discerned more clearly.
The outer says THE URBAN DISTRICT COUNCIL OF INCE-IN-MAKERFIELD; the inner says ALFRED LYMN JP CHAIRMAN OF THE PEACE COMMITTEE; the panel beneath the Ince crest says TO COMMEMORATE THE VICTORIOUS CONCLUSION OF THE GREAT WAR. I assume the date beneath is 1919.
Alfred Lymn lived on Warrington Road, Spring View, in Fir Tree Villa. This later became a Nursery School, and then the Vicarage for St Mary's from 1944 to about 1954.
