It's a very steep gradiant from Ince moss up to Bryn station, Most steam engines had to be banked. Two of the three sisters can be seen in the back ground.
Great photo Thomas.
Yet another of your lovely nostalgic photos Thomas. I don't quite know what it is about steam trains but they seem to take you back to those long gone halcyon days of your youth, when things really did seem simpler and happier somehow. Or am I just getting old? Well yes I suppose I am but never mind, age has its benefits too!
Sorry, my first comments dont make sense....
It's a very steep gradiant from Ince moss up to Bryn station, most steam engines had to have a banker. In the background to the right of the photo, you can see two large hills, the other one is out of sight, they are known locally as the "three sisters", at Bryn.
Great photo Thomas.
Its quite simple Margaret.... a lot I mean a lot of Wiganers worked on the Railways, and indeed Springs Branch depot. The the two engine drivers and two firemen and the guards man would be based at springs branch......now sadly its just a shell. Photos like these of Thomas Sutch, are just beautiful in every sense steam engines do really live and breathe.
You might be getting old Margaret, (your words) but your absolutely right.
my Dad was one of those men who were based at Spring View. he worked in the Jacky Last Wagon as guard. he loved his job.
