Back in those days, when football was played with a 'casey', it's no wonder so many players got brain damage through heading the ball.

1st May 1950 v Grimsby Town. The game was a friendly to boost the coffers at the club. A crowd of 16,000 was the largest to watch such a game at Springfield Park.
Latics 3 (Leaver 2, Vickers pen) Grimsby Town 5 (Cairns 2, Bloomer 2, Briggs).
Tom Finney (yes that one) Made a guest appearance for Latics
