This team won the Wigan, Bolton, Bury and Rochdale Regions Methodist Youth Clubs 5 a Side competition from an entry of 16 teams. They then went on to beat the Sheffield, Manchester, Darlington and Glasgow regional winners to reach the national final. They played Cardiff in the final but unfortunately lost 3-2. In the same year they also won the Wigan 5 a Side competition held at Wigan Boys Club.

With such talent in that team, surely one or more became a professional footballer.

I thought I recognised the lad on the right,John Watkinson.I am sure we were apprentices together at Horwich loco works training school.He came Springs Branch Depot.

John Watkinson,instantly recognisable, very fast runner, great player for gidlow school, also a good musician who played regularly in a wigan group, cant remember their name.
