This is Central Park...........
I don't think so.
GB v New Zealand 1965?
Been to Central Park many times. Is it Odsal. The banking seems too high and I don't recognise the building at the top. If it is 1932 I wouldn't have been threre
This is my guess, Saturday, September 30th 1961 Headingly, referee Eric Clay. Boston scoring one of his 2 tries. Dick Huddart in support. Great Britain lost 11 points to New Zealand's 29. Attendance 16,540.
My mistake, I think it's possibly Odsal, in which case GB won by 23 points to 10 and Eric Clay was the referee again. Attendance 19,980.
Is the referee Sergeant Major Eric Clay ?
Is it not Billy Boston scoring against NZ at Odsal in 1960?
Surely that's Billy Boston scoring. Definitely not 1932. Stand looks like Central Park but the Spion Kop is not there.
Central Park. Image 16236 in the Central Park folder shows the building at the top left corner.
player on the right is the great Dick Huddart
Unfortunately I cannot find the above photo. However if you look at the photo from 1999 there a far fewer windows in the stand on the Popular side than are shown in what I believe is of Odsal. There seems to be a 2 tier bank which Odsal has.
The advert on the stand roof looks to be for Hammond's Unity Ale, comparing with other photos of Odsal on the internet. Hammonds was a Bradford brewery. This couldn't have been a try though, as Billy B. didn't score in the Bradford test match v NZ in 1961. He scored 2 in the previous test at Leeds but this isn't Leeds.
Central Park? Definitely not. Two reasons:- the terracing on Central Park's 'Popular side" was not as high as that, and the 'Spion Kop' did not have a split level as shown on this photo. It looks much more like Odsal that does have high terracing (now with seats) and a split level at the far end. There is no Speedway track but the racing didn't start until about the 1950's. But definitely Boston scoring the try and there's no mistaking 'sergeant major' Clay... How good it would be to have the like's of him back.
WHO'S SAYING THE TRY WAS ALLOWED? For me this Odsal, with the high terracing behind the goal, cinders as it was then, definately not Central Park, and Headingly didn't have terracing as high as that.
Yes having taken a closer look it is Odsal. Should have gone to Specsavers...
Could it be Station Road,Swinton?
Tuddy,no chance should have gone to Specsavers with Ron.
It was Odsal 1961 Great Britain won 23-10, that's Billy Boston going over but was disallowed for a double movement.
Have a look here . . .
