Cracking view of one of the most famous grounds in world rugby league, and, being a Wiganer, probably THE most famous.

That ground still looks better than most rugby clubs today, and for what...another supermarket.

Watched Wigan rugby since 1960, still miss the atmosphere and of course the best rugby ground in the world.

I have so many happy memories on that ground. Scholes Malc is spot on - it was named Central Park for a reason! I'd give anything to go back and watch Billy thundering down that right wing once more.

Not sure ,but,I was informed many years ago that the name central park derived from what it used to be the Central Park railway sidings.

Spent a lot of my youth here. Although I moved away from Wigan in 1970 I would always still go and watch them here when on visits to see Mum and Dad. I also still always go to Wembley and would go and see them away if I was near a ground. However I will not set foot in the DW stadium as long as I live. The heart was finally ripped out of Wigan when Central Park was sold. It should have been redeveloped like St James Park in Newcastle (again a rare stadium in the centre of the City) the beating heart of the place. i wouldn't even have bothered about ground sharing with Athletic but it should have been at central park. Once they move out the soul goes out of the place.

Dave, i can only assume rightly or wrongly that you are a Tics supporter.

Sorry to hear of your sore eye Dave. But to most of us the loss of Central Park created heartache

Glad my Dad wasn't here to see the supermarket replacing the rugby ground! He loved his rugby here!

Springfield Park would never win a beauty contest but its the memories that matter. Supporters like my dad no longer with us but we had some good times at Springfield. Wigan rugby fans had the same with Central Park.

Brian, how glad I am to have introduced you to Neil, and what a lovely friendship we all share, but it was the thong that did it! x.

Comment by: Brian Bradshaw on 30th January 2016 at 19:39
