Scholes Malc: How long did it take for them to get there? Must have been an horrendous journey for athletes stuck on a liner for so long...Six weeks?
Martyn Ryan was telling me about when they went to Australia in 1946 They went on an Aircraft Carrier, HMS Indomitable, and it took six weeks. They then had to travel across Australia by train. He said that all the team were made Petty Officers and they had to sign for the drinks and settle up at the end of the voyage. They kept fit by helping to stoke the boilers, At that time, the backs got more money than the forwards. Ken Gee was supposedly a 'THICK FORWARD' but at the end of the trip when they were all settling up. Whereas most of the players bills were a few pounds Ken Gee's was only 10/- When they asked him how come he's bill was only 10/- He said " You men think I'm thick, but I've been signing all your names on the bar tabs" L.O.L.
Ron: brilliant that...Well done Ken Gee...Good Pem lad...?
