Wigan Album

This photo of Ann Milner and her son Harold is used by kind permission of Kristina Reading. Ann was born Ann Pollard in Wigan in 1849. She was the daughter of William - who was landlord of the Commercial Inn (which was, I believe, in Market Place) - and Ann. She married Thomas Milner the younger (see his photo in this album), a watchmaker, at All Saints, Wigan, in 1873. The couple had 11 children (3 of whom sadly died in early childhood) and one of them, Harold (as identified by Kristina), appears in this photo with her. He was born in Wigan in 1879 and, for a while, followed his father into the jewellery business, though later ran a newsagent's in Cheadle, Staffordshire. Ann died in Southport in 1924, but was buried in the rather grand Milner family grave in Lower Ince Cemetery.
