A relatively unusual name - but there must have been a few in the Wigan area at that time - three Scally's were killed (Edward, Miles, and James - who is commemorated on his mother's grave in Wigan Cemetery), and another, T J, wounded, in WW1.

They were Irish, I know of 2 different Scally families in Wigan.
I uploaded a picture of his 3 sisters on here.
Jane Scally being my 2nd great grandmother.

I know a Ken Scally from Standish Lower Ground / Beech Hill area. A very good folk musical instrumentalist. He would be in his late 60's now. Would he be any relation?

Did one of his sisters live in Holland St Wigan, which came under demolition in the late 60s.

I remember a lad in my year at St Pat’s the name of Scally but can’t think of his first name. He lived in Holland St. He was tall with dark hair.

Hi Rich, I know Ken, he's a different Scally family to us.

He took Ancestry DNA too, no DNA match to us. So he's likely a different Scally family, or very distantly related.

I know Kevin a talented guitarist, Kevin is related to rhe Farrels a lovely family old Kevin and Terry whose mother was a Scally. They were the grand parents of Andy farrell and Liam farrell. Scally's but not my side, unfortunately. Mine side also came from Roscommon and married into the Mc Manus family. Scally is a lovely name which I am proud of if anyone knows any links let me know.

Ken I wonder if ‘Scally Wag ‘ originated from the name in the distant past. Spring St was very near where I lived in Scholes. Were your Scally’s Catholic as there was certainly a number of them in St Patrick’s parish? . There is a school photo in St Patrick’s Album. The one I remember may be on it, I will have a look and let you know. He would be in his mid seventies.

Yes it’s the same Scally’s she must have been his sister. I do remember her Edna but not her name she was younger. I remember her brother as he was in my year in the juniors. I recognised him on the class photo.
