He won a Sony Radio Award in 1993 for his portrayal of the Lancashire comedian Frank Randle in the radio play Randle's Scandals.
I saw this show twice back in the 1980's BRILLIANT
Frank even had his own page in the RADIO FUN comic back in 1947. He appeared in a few films in the 1940's. One with Diana Dors, who I believe he took into the Boars Head Pub one evening.
I couldn't place Billy Hardcastle until I looked for his photo, and could see he's the one that dressed as Robin Hood, he does have a look of Frank Randle about him too. I'd put my other comment before reading this too Ron so hadn't seen that you too had mentioned about Frank and Diana Dors being seen in the Boars Head.
John Inman used to impersonate him.
Jack, yes John Inman did a superb impression of him in the HIKER sketch. See Below

' Where's me washboard ' ?
My old Dad was a fan of Frank Randle. He told me of some of the joint escapades he new about with Frank Randle and the Irish tenor, Josef Locke. They use to carouse around Blackpool on drunken binges regularly. One of Randle's more risque phrases was, " Eeeh lass, thee's a hot 'un ! "
Ive been scouring the internet trying to find a recording of SCANDALS with out any success I have emailed Keith Cliffords agent to see if he can give me details of his contact details.. to see if he has a recording of his act.
What a find........
