Bet you were very proud of him Joan.....lovely photo....looks so young....cheers!!!
Gosh he looks young! Lovely photo.
Young men had to grow up much sooner in those days. Great photo, you must be really proud of your Dad Joan.
I think I may just have been a twinkle in his eye then, I don't think I was born when this photo was taken.
After the second world war ended ,it was compulsory for all males born before the 30th, September,1939, to be conscripted for national service, into one of the armed forces, on attaining their eighteenth birthday, unless you were in a reserved occupation, or on an apprenticeship, or university course, with the following exception, after the apprenticeship was completed, you had to do, national service. I am unsure about those on university courses
He does look very young...How old would he have been here Joan?
My Dad was born on the 29th June 1922. he married my Mum on 26th Feb 1949. I am not sure how old they had to be to join up,
Joan, Your dad most probably joined the R. A. F. in 1940, when he was eighteen years of age. He would have served throughout the second world war.
I remember my Mum telling me that when he was over on leave he used to press his address in her hand and ask her to write to him.
Oh I am so glad she did x
Joan....I am sure you are....my Dad's picture is on Page 2..he also was so young the same as your Dad....I am so proud of the fact that they and others protected us with their lives...no questions....
