Looked at this photo many times and wondered,who is the child looking over the fence?.You can see Crawford Avenue houses in the distance .
David, I found a small pic of Henry Barker as a very small child sat in Moss Pit Row garden, would you like me to post it on Wiganworld ? he's sat with the little girl from next door who was some 18yrs later, to become my wife, this is how come we have the pic. You can see the same garden.

Is that the rubbish tip at front Walter? my mother mentioned it many times,said there was a terrible smell in the summer time.
No David, the dark area on the photo are shrubs/ bushes planted to hide the coal waste tip that Crawford Avenue was actually built on. I was born on the Ave 1947. The tip you heard about was between Moss Pit and Woodshaw (Woochy) Rook.
Yes it did smell at times in the summer, especially when it caught fire. It was landscaped many years ago now.
