Geoff, I think your Dad was just a little bit chuffed, wasn't he?
Hi Janet. Yes I think you might be right - after having three girls.I was pleased to get this photo fairly recently when it was discovered after all those years.
Would that be the same Alf Thomas who was a collier at Stones? He had 2 sisters there, Hilda and Jennie
Hello Fred.Yes my dad did work at Stones's pit during the 1950s until going to Bold Colliery in the 1960s when Stones's closed. He took early retirement (redundancy actually) in 1977.Hilda and Jennie were my dad's nieces though, not his sisters. In 1984, after an operation,he was infected with Hepatitis C from infected blood products he was given. He died as a result of this in September 1990.Nice to hear from one of dad's mates
Your dad used to bring his tommy tin full of home made cake and there was always a scramble for a piece from the rest of his mates. Your mum must have been a good baker. Another thing about your dad, He was one of the neatest workers that I came across. His workplace was a picture with all the props in line and everwhere cleaned up at the end of his shift.
