Last week of coal by barge from Bickershaw colliery to Westwood power station, passing under Lily Lane , Bamfurlong, August 1972.

I wonder if the 2 girls and gent could be the Wells who lived near Dover Lock, Abram, as Mr Wells was a bargeman ?.

The photo was taken on 10th August 1972, the penultimate day of the traffic, when I (with fashionable long hair!) and friend Yvonne Smith joined boatmen Eddie Lee and Teddy Walton to take photographs for a report in Waterways World magazine. Two longer features with photographs were published in the June 2007 and May 2008 issues of Waterways World (see www.waterwaysworld.com). Amazing coincidence that someone was also photgraphing us!
