Oh my! What a blast from the past! I had forgotten about 'th'orse' on the park . . we had one on the park near us!
What happy memories. We would cross the field on the foot path from Birch Grove to Billinge rd. Then walk along Smock Alley and we were there. Great times.
Brilliant photo Lyndon. I remember the trek from Downall Green John, with our jam butties and a bottle of water we'd be on the 'rec' all day during the Summer holidays. It always seemed to be lovely warm days then, quite change from nowadays. What great memories!! Thanks for sharing this photo.
Lyn. A true blast from the past. reviving lots of good memories, especially the photos in and around Cedar Grove
what great memories thanx for sharing, we would spend all day on rec x
Oh my, how many generations of Downall Green children walked that walk and had so much fun at 'Garswood Rec' ...So many good times, I'll never forget them..
Great photo lyndon, that horse was still there in 60s,as janet said everyone from dgreen must have been there, we used to play there all the days in summer.
That horse was still there well into the early 70's at least
i remember that horse spent many happy hours on the rec as a child
I went on that rocking horse the day the Rec opened, 1939..
did we ever find out why the houses were knocked down in the background of this photo ?
Ian. the houses you refere to were knocked down due to being unfit to live in , you will remember they were stone cottages built by the estate of Lord Gerard for his employees, Thy worked over the road where Garswood Labour Club is now, there were more cottages close to Lord Gerards Stables, I remember them beind knocked down sometime during the war, They were refered to as The Stable Houses,
