Joan, Is this the one between the bottom end of Tanhouse and Whelmar House?
Hi David.Yes I agree with you this is now the bottom end of Tanhouse. On the new maps is around Delf Clough. On old maps it is off Houghtons Rd.Got a cutting from newspaper re the sale of implements @ Houghtons Farm."The new town shopping centre will cover half of the land. The Hillside estate will cover the other halfof the property."Remember my auntie used to clean at the farmhouse. Happy memories.
This is the smaller of the 2 delphs, the second one was bigger and we called it the ' mazy' delph and bordered Holbert's and Bullen's land. We used to swim in both as teenagers - I lived in Daneiel's Lane. From Houghton's Delph looking over the fields you could see Jack Mather's house and his wife had a poodle parlour.there.
HI Arthur,Yes I remenber Jack Mathers house,Mrs Mather used to show the poodles. My auntie Maggie used to clean for them.
Remember Joe Walkers milk dairy ?
Yes, Joan, I remember bottling orange juice with Ellison Walker, my brother David also helped. Would I know you too?
Is Neville your married name?
Hi Aurther. My maiden name was Pennington, and we lived next to the Grimshaw Lane pub,(the cottages they demolished). My dad Jimmy is now 89 and living in Hall Green.Did you live near Digmoor School?
Yes, Joan, we lived at 8 Daniels Lane. My mum and dad were caretakers of Digmoor school for many years and my mum used to be a dinner lady there with Nellie Bolton. Did you live in the last house in the row where Gladys Bennett's shop was? I can't remember your dad, though, as we are older than you and my mum would now have been 102 had she lived.
Yes Arthur,we lived in the end cottage in the row Gladys had the shop,Gwenny & Roy Lindon lived next door to us.Do you rememember Geoff Kenyon,he lived near May Kenyons chip shop a few doors down,he is my cousin.
Yes, Joan I do remember Goeff Kenyon. Do you remember a family by the name of Henry? They moved to Milnthorpe and opened a bakehouse/ shop there.
I think the big delf, that we called the Mazy, was actually named "Elmers Delf" and the smaller one although furthest away from Houghtons farm called "Houghtons Delf".
