The top photo was taken in the 1920s, when the Legs of Man pub which stood at the foot of Stairey Brow, was being demolished.
The second taken in 2008.
A crying shame the old cobbler's shop and adjoining property were demolished and replaced by that eyesore of a house.
Planners have never ever had a clue about what to put up when they tear something down....and they always seen to get away with it.
Architects have a lot to answer for.
I always wandered what used to be here, I pass this every day on my journey to and from work. I prefer the original buildings though!
what a shame , Upholland is one of my favourite places , my mum and familys lived on School Lane its a sweet place and have happy memories of the owl and white lion Pubs Mum used to tell me about the ghost in the white lion , that the rocking chair would rock with nobody in . my great aunt used to live opposite the owl . any other place like upholland would have kept the buildings as they where , But you have greedy people who couldn't care less about heritage !
